The morning after Michael Brodie marries the lovely Brenna, he marches off to join Wellington’s army, leaving his new wife alone with his unseemly Uncle Angus and an estate to manage.

Ten years later, when Michael finally returns home, he discovers a nest of vicious lies, tales of disloyalty, and most surprising of all, a blossoming love for the woman he left behind.

But his beloved is keeping a dark secret from him. A secret that begins to unfold when Michael’s young sister joins their household, and Uncle Angus’ true nature is revealed.

Grace Burrowes started writing as an antidote to empty nest and soon found it an antidote to life in general. She is the sixth out of seven children, raised in the rural surrounds of central Pennsylvania. Early in life she spent a lot of time reading romance novels and practicing the piano. Her first career was as a technical writer and editor in the Washington, DC, area, a busy job that nonetheless left enough time to read a lot of romance novels.

It also left enough time to grab a law degree through an evening program, produce Beloved Offspring (only one, but she is a lion), and eventually move to the lovely Maryland countryside.

While reading yet still more romance novels, Grace opened her own law practice, acquired a master's degree in Conflict Transformation (she had a teenage daughter by then) and started thinking about writing.... romance novels. This aim was realized when Beloved Offspring struck out into the Big World a few years ago. ("Mom, why doesn't anybody tell you being a grown-up is hard?")

Grace eventually got up the courage to start pitching her manuscripts to agents and editors. The query letter that resulted in "the call" started out: "I am the buffoon in the bar at the RWA retreat who could not keep her heroines straight, could not look you in the eye, and could not stop blushing--and if that doesn't narrow down the possibilities, your job is even harder than I thought." (The dear lady bought the book anyway.)

I love Burrowes writing. She transports me in every book she writes. This time I got to travel to the Scottish Highlands. The story line was interesting and kept me glued to my e-reader. I loved this series and can't wait to read more from Burrowes.

I am just love Burrowes writing. She transports me into the past. Her writing is so well done that I feel like I'm actually there. Her characters are amazing. They all come to life and I couldn't wait to get to the next page. Burrowes is one of the best historical romance writers I've read so far. I can't wait to find out where Burrowes takes me in her next book.

"Some Silences we are compelled to keep." This story was so well written that I truly felt taken back in time. Both Duke and Duchess has lived through their own personal hell and have kept it secret from everyone. They find comfort within each other's arms while facing their past. They also worry about the Duke's daughter who is refusing to talk. She also has secrets that she has to hide in order to protect the ones she love. My heart just went out to this family. This is the first book I have read from this author and I can't wait to read more. If you love historical romance you do not want to miss this book!

Nik Epperstein’s alpha lost his mate two years ago and took an evil witch as his new bride. Ever since then, Eli’s leadership has become violent, bordering on insane. When Eli attacks him, Nik’s healing powers mysteriously vanish. He can’t defend himself, nor protect the wolf he secretly loves. Only through the help of a foul-mouthed witch and an overly-dramatic dwarf will he save her – but their assistance comes at a price.

Caroline has tried for two years to lure Nik into her bed and can’t understand his hesitation. After all, she senses their mating bond loud and clear. Then Nik disappears. She confronts her father who tells her Nik is dead, and she’s next on his chopping block. Without Nik to protect her, she flees the pack and is kidnapped by a man half her size.

Reunited at last, the young wolves have one last chance to ignite their bond. But love must wait when battle looms. Eli and his wife attack, and aren’t above using dirty tricks to win. If Nik and Caroline survive the battle, the dwarf and his wife will require them to make a promise that will change their lives forever…

Eva Lefoy started warping her brain at a very young age. First she developed addictions to Speed Racer and Marine Boy, then transferred her wild young enthusiasm to The Monkees. After that, she fell in love with Star Blazers and that hunky blue dish Leader Deslock. Then, she grew up.

No, not really.

She graduated to Star Trek TOS (back when it didn’t have the TOS yet!) and just kept right on going. In between sci-fi endeavors, she read the classics, made friends, and searched for a cure for stupidity. These days, she continues to read sci-fi, romance, erotica, Steampunk, and a tiny bit of fantasy thrown in for good measure. She’s fond of Asian food and all things chocolate.

Is there any wine?

This was a great shifter read. Nik has to not only protect the pack, but his mate as well. I became invested in these characters right away. I was rooting for Nik and booing for the Alpha. If you enjoy shifter romances you will love this one. I can't wait to read more about this pack, but most of all about this couple.

Book Title - Obsidian Wings
Author - Laken Cane
Publisher - Self-Published
ISBN/ASIN - B00K9V6IF6

Gruesome murders begin to pop up in River County, and Rune is introduced to the bird shifters--to one bird in particular, a woman named Cree Stark.

When she gets a whiff of the shifters' scents where COS had been executing a grisly sacrifice, Rune begins to suspect the birds know more about the slayers--and the twins--than they're willing to admit.

Nothing is more important to Shiv Crew than finding Levi and Denim, but when Lex psychically connects with the twins, it isn't good news she brings back.

As always, COS is at the center of it all.

The world is beginning to look at the church differently, thanks to the tireless work of Bill Rice and others like him. The humans' acceptance is turning to fear.

And what people fear, they hate.

What the slayers are planning next will either finish them for good or give them everything they've ever wanted--Karin Love and unchallenged power.

Rune and the crew race against time to save River County from the biggest monster they've faced yet.

If they fail, the church will be closer than ever to their dream of creating an Otherless world.

In Obsidian Wings, Rune hides a devastating physical weakness, makes an important choice in her love life, and gains a new understanding that will help her face the future.

No matter what happens, their world is changing.

The crew is growing.

And so is Rune Alexander.

This series just keeps getting better and better. The action, mystery, the crew, and of course Rune are amazing! This series is just non stop action. Even the low parts are filled with tension and mystery. This book finds Rune in a bit of a "situation". When isn't she, right? She's on the trail for her twins and she won't stop until she gets them home. We find out more about other members of the crew. Rune is now not only asking for help, but welcoming it. Rune is the monster and the monster is her, but the crew is her family and that's who completes her. Cane grabbed my attention with the first book in the series and hasn't let up yet! This is a series that all paranormal readers need to read! I'm obsessed with the Shiv Crew and I love telling everyone about it.

This has become my favorite book of the series so far. Just like the other books in the series the book started out with action and never let up! I actually cried while reading this book. Ellie just stole my heart and I am so hoping he gets everything he wants he so deserves it!! Shiv Crew goes through so many emotions in this one. I was exhausted for them!! OMG and the ending, well you know I'm not going to tell you the ending. What I can say is if you're not totally obsessed with the Shiv Crew like I am you will be after you read this!!

Cane did it to me again! I stayed up all night with the Shiv Crew!! The story is great and the characters are amazing. Rune is constantly fighting with who she is and not turn back into her dark hiding place. Just like with the first book it had my attention right from the beginning. With the mystery the shiv crew has to solve and Rune being pulled into 6 different directions. Well the saying no rest for the wicked comes to mind. I just love Rune even more than I did after reading the first book. She's strong, determined, and has a need to protect. In this book Rune actually begins asking for help from her Crew. That's such a huge step for Rune, her time away helped. I am just dying to find out how Rune is connected to the Vampire Master. I'm going to have to grab that next book and find out NOW!! If you love a great paranormal read with mystery, romance, and lots of butt kicking read the Shiv Crew!!!

I live in Ohio and I write urban fantasy. Laken Cane is a new pseudonym for me--I also write erotic paranormal romance for publishers like Loose Id, Ellora's Cave, and Liquid Silver Books under a different pen name.
Shiv Crew is my first book as Laken, and I've never been as satisfied writing as I am with this series. I have a sort of end game planned for the crew, but I have no idea how many books it will take to get there. I'm having too much fun with them to think about ending them!
I do have plans to bring in a new character for one book, just so she can eventually get her own series when (or maybe before) the Rune Alexander series ends. That's the plan.
Besides writing--when I have time to do something other than write or read--I play the heck out of my Playstation 4, my Nintendo 3DS XL, and occasionally I find time to play my Xbox 360 or Wii U. Yes. I have a sickness.

This was such an amazing book! It grabbed my attention right from the start and I couldn't put it down. Cane's imagery is so vivid and detailed it kept me captivated. I love reading books with strong female leads and Rune is on the top of that list. She leads an elite group of warriors and is more fierce then all of them combined. I think all of those under her command have interesting and unique back stories and hope to find out more about each of them as I go through the series. I will definitely follow this series of books. I can't wait to start the next one! If you're looking for an amazing paranormal read you have to read this!!
