Review-Electric The Bay Boys #1 by Emilia Winters

He made her feel electric. Like volts of energy fizzled through her veins, racing, constantly stimulating. It was intoxicating and thrilling. And for the first time in her life, she felt trulyalive.

Luke Branford.

Notorious womanizer.

Shameless flirt.

Heir to his family’s multi-million dollar business.

His motto? No love, no relationships. Just pure, carnal sex…no strings-attached.

When prim and efficient Kate Kennedy is hired on as Luke's temporary assistant, her no-nonsense attitude and blatant dismissal of his advances sparks a challenge he simply can’t resist. But Luke has demons of his own and a tragedy that happened years ago continues to haunt him. Once lines are crossed and rules are broken, will past secrets keep them apart…or bind them closer together?

Note: Intended for mature audiences over 18+. This is a STANDALONE novel and can be read on its own even though it’s part of a series. No cliffhanger

Emilia Winters has been reading and writing stories since childhood. She discovered her passion for writing romance early on and never looked back. After graduating from the University of California, Irvine with a B.A. in English, she happily pursued her dream of becoming a self-published author. When she’s not dreaming up sizzling moments between her characters, she’s either watching old reruns of The Golden Girls or drinking tea. She currently lives in California, secretly hoping for rain as she soaks up the sun.

This was an interesting book about love, loss, and the baggage we carry. I liked the way destiny seemed to bring these two people together, my only drawback was the many times things went forward one step and then backwards two. The gal, Kate, flew off the handle a little too easily, but all in all, its an enjoyable read.
Kate, a twenty something girl living on her own while paying for her Grandmothers nursing home, is a spitfire who does not have any friends close. Her mother died a while back, and she was raised by her grandmother. Her Grandma worked two jobs and sacrificed for her, so she feels responsible to take care of her. She secretly wants to be a romance writer, but she works for a temp agency to pay the bills while getting rejection letter after rejection letter from publishers. Although she writes romance, she has had only one sexual experience that was horrible because the guy in college was just trying to see how many women he could bag. She is a bit OCD, and her routine puts her at the local coffee shop every morning. She feels like the regulars, which she has given nicknames, are her "family". One of them, a beautiful man with blue eyes, she longs for. She even has made a character in her book to look like him. Jake is working at his family's construction firm, but he would rather be doing something else. He is a ladies man, and he is so good at picking up women that his friends call him the closer. Jake has been trying to fill his brother's spot by going to work at his dad's company because he feels responsible for Jack's death. He has punished himself for the past 9 years because he was driving when his brother died. The family has avoided talking about him and Jake is trapped with grief. His only joy right now is going to the local coffee shop so he can see the pretty girl who is always there. Normally a suave guy, he cannot seem to find the guts to talk to her. When he finally does talk to her, he says something wrong and she figures he is just like the jerk from college. He is so drawn to her, he will keep trying to get her. Kate is fretting because her bills are so big, and the temp jobs so few, she is getting desperate. Just when she is thinking about working at the coffee shop, her temp agency calls with a great two month job. Little does she know that it is working for Jake. And then the story takes off! They face tons of challenges, and both of them go back and forth. Can Kate give Jake the benefit of the doubt? Or will his sex life come back to bite him in the ass? Will he be able to open up to Kate and tell her about his brother? What about the fact that he is her boss? What will his dad say about them? And when tragedy strikes Kate, what will she do now that everyone in her family is gone? Can she trust in a man? Can Jake live the life he wants and not the life he feels he has to? Grab this read and check it out! I am looking forward to the next book in the series to see what happens to Jake's friend.
