This book was a really interesting read. I hadn't read anything from this author before so I was excited to get the chance. To me, this was a very different kind of romance story. The majority of the book is spent in the build up to the relationship, as opposed to other romance books that focus on the steamy sex scenes. I like all types of romance books, but this story really held my attention and I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. If you like the how and why's of a romance, you will enjoy the depth the author took with these characters.
Issac is a very successful ad exec who has been married to Debra for 15 years. They have a marriage of convenience because they both needed to be married. He, because he was afraid he wouldn't be taken seriously in his job at his father's office if it was known that he was gay. She needed to be married to get her parents off her case. They are best friends, so it worked well for them. Jayden is an intern at his company who is living with his foster mother because his mom died and his father threw him out because he was gay. He has had a tough life , growing up poor and abused, but he is happy with his madre, and he cares for her and his second mom fiercely. He is a very religious, dedicated young man who works very hard to try to make a better life for them.
When Jayden's job starts, Issac is instantly attracted to the young man, but he can't act on it because he does not know if he would get the CEO job if they knew he was gay. He has hidden his sexuality from everyone except his wife. There is quite a bit of drama in the office because everyone sees how beautiful Jayden is. Issac's nemesis, Silas jr., wants Jayden a lot. Jayden doesn't feel the same way, but he also doesn't want to hurt his job by dating the boss or anyone in the company. Jayden and Issac go back and forth about the possibility of dating, and when tragedy strikes Jayden, things start to change. Can Jayden become the successful young man he has dreamed of? Or will his heart make a different choice? How do you measure success? Is it money and power? Or could it be something else? And could Issac come out of the closet for Jayden? And what about the workplace? When Issac is dealt his own blow, will his revenge plans have to change? This is a wonderful look at love, and worth your time to check out. I couldn't help but come to love Jayden, who has a very strong character, and he is a heart warming individual. Check it out!
